A medical procedure where 450ml of blood is removed from a person's body. This is the same procedure used for blood donation. There are many different reasons why someone may need therapeutic phlebotomy.
It has benefits for people who have haemochromatosis (iron overload in their system), polycythaemia (high concentrations of red cells in the blood), or people taking hormone therapies such as testosterone replacement therapy.
